Florence Welch in a gorgeous couture Valentino gown

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab Haute Couture
I'm so in love with the layers of lace and chiffon and the soft creamy pastel colours of both these dresses, definitely the best dressed in my opinion!

McQueen and I

I remember reading an interview a few months ago that Detmar Blow gave about the about the troubled relationship between his late wife Isabella and Lee McQueen, the abandonment, the depression, the waning recognition for her ability to spot mayjaaah talent etc, I found it strange that even though he's married with a son and has seemingly moved on with his life he was still speaking about a situation that died when Alexander took his life.
Personal curiosities aside, I guess he was merely preparing us for the documentary that showed on More4 last last Friday evening in which he gave great insight into the complexities of the relationship between the designer and his muse. The story resonates with anyone who has a heart, and to see it in documentary-form makes it even more heartbreaking, so incase you haven't already, please watch the documentary here or here because it's a MUST SEE!
While I don't necessarily believe that a tortured soul is the main catalyst in the production of brilliant art, whether its in the form of design, sculpture, portraiture etc, I definitely think it added a certain mystique to McQueen's work. Every collection he produced was a shade darker than the last and the emotion his clothes evoked, definitely imply a great emotional investment on his behalf.

Ps. JEALOUS of everyine who gets to see the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition at the Met in NY. It's running from May 4th to July 31st.. fingers crossed it comes to the V&A after.. [gets on hands and knees in supplication]

Pps. for further reading you should check out get authored a book called 'Blow by Blow', it's authored by Detmar Blow and Tom Sykes about the life and times of Isabella Blow.

Networking..

I had the pleasure of attending a seminar held by the wonderful people at Fashion Workroom, which is a non-profit run by Ola Akinlade. The organisation is focused "providing inspiration and motivation for young people through fashion". It was a really great evening, I got to meet the beauty behind Glutton for Grandeur who was a vision in a chic Audrey Hepburn-esque ensemble (forgot to take a picture though tut tut)
It's nice to have these kind of events to network and meet fellow creatives, and to meet younger people who are interested in fashion but aren't fully aware of how to get involved and just how many roles there are aside from stylist, designer and photographer! The panel of speakers included my best friend and partner in all things bright and beautiful Danielle Scott-Haughton of Cut and Swallow clothing, and Video Director of Super Super magazine, Joel Dash of the Dash Empire, and current stylist to Nicki Minaj, Sarah Barnes who's the Founder and Editor of Uplift magazine, and Ola Akinlade herself who's a PR powerhouse!

ps. if anyone saw me huffing n puffing into the auditorium I'd just like to insert that I'd just left the Fashion East show in Monument and decided to walk from there to Oxford Circus [EPIC FAIL] Lesson well and truly Learnt, if I didn't before, then I now know that the cobbled streets of London are A.not the place to work off the Oreos you had for breakfast, brunch and lunch, B.not your catwalk unless you're wearing flats.

London Fashion Week

Finally getting round to posting my LFW round up, as usual I figure better late than never considering it's a couple of days late and my fingers are eagerly awaiting their chance to type about all things Milan!
Without overstating it's importance, I have to say Fashion Week is a magical period in time, and you don't get the same buzz off a style.com gallery as you do witnessing a show in person, the flashes, the girls, the music, the people, and it's over within 5minutes!
My favourite shows this go round had to be James Long, Elliot Atkinson and Simone Rocha, showing at Fashion East, with Mary Katrantzou and Holy Fulton added for good measure.

James Long
I love how light the knitted pieces look despite the fact that the knits are thick, and the beaded detailing adds a fun touch of colour rounds.. LIKE

Elliot Atkinson
off to the Wild West we go!!feathers .. check, shaggy fur ..check, skinny brooch ties ..check! LOVE
(one a side note, I really hope he gets an investor or a high end stockist so he continues to show at LFW because I really love his collection!)

Simone Rocha
tulle over wool, fur over tulle NUFF said.. LOVE

Holy Fulton
the fact that she used those studded Louboutin boots I'll never get over.. LOVE

Mary Katrantzou
the softer cuts, the brocade prints and the light pastels are stirring up the GYPSET vibe in me.. LOVE

Blonde Ambition

Ohh Ajak Deng, aside from being one of very few recognisable models of colour doing it big on the catwalks this season(and the past three), she's also the inspiration behind my decision to finally go blonde, and to be fairly honest I'm quite miffed that she went back to black for LFW.. anyhow these polaroids of her completely sold me on the whole blonde thing..

See more videos on modelinia.com
she's a really close friend in my head so I'm sure she doesn't mind the fact that I copied her..
coat; Asos/ t-shirt; H&M/ shorts; Beyond Retro
(I don't know if my right eye's really small or if my left eye is just unnecessarily big, it's quite distressing to be honest)
I'd like to take this moment to thank Eve for looking like this way back when I thought short hair was only for boys and people with ringworm..

[high five.. *crickets*]
I'm literally itching to get the fashion week experience in all four cities, but the frenzy, the bustle, the crisp chill of the New York air, needless to say this past week has been torture for me, but life goes on so without further yip yap check out my AW 11 faves..

Just Around The River Bend

My tendency to act as some sort of life coach on this blog is ridiculous, I'm sure without a shadow of a doubt that when 30 hits, and my 20's are officially over, I'll look back at this and laugh with derision.
Nevertheless the things I type are the result of mini lessons I'm learning along the way, so please continue to humour me ..and perhaps yourselves? ( :-[ )
Back to the matter at hand though, are Pocahontas and I the only people who were told to go chasing whatever was Just Around The River Bend at breakneck speed without realising that speed without direction is the quickest way to kill oneself?!
My biggest fear in life is failure (leisure/ laziness = failure), so I spend a lot of time running away from what I think is failure, and into things that are absolutely NOT my portion, when the truth of the matter is Taking Time Aint Laziness!
I should put a disclaimer here and say this isn't an endorsement for people to have zeal without haste, because laziness never got anyone anywhere and there's enough time to rest when we're dead.  I've just learnt that instead of chasing after things that were never meant for you, sometimes its okay to chill out and wait for your opportunity to reveal itself..
watch THIS for better understanding
still throwing 7 different kinds of smoke every opportunity I get, just trying not to huff n puff myself out while doing so!
