I've pretty much been in a state of denial about Nicolas Ghesquiere's departure from Balenciaga since he announced it weeks ago. I honestly don't believe any of his contemporaries can do that conceptual, demi-couture, elitist thing he's been doing so well for the past 15 years and so I refused to register it.
As you can imagine the news that Alexander Wang's taking the reigns stunned me. Although he's amazing in his own right, it's scary to imagine how much more commercially accessible-and less conceptual-Balenciaga RTW might become under him.. I guess we'll have to wait and see what he shows for AW13 in a few month's time. Until then join me in commiseration by watching my favourite collection of the Ghesquiere years, S/S 07.
