WLTM

If like me you were sent into a mini-depression after replaying this video on a loop, wondering when it'd be your turn to find true love on these here hopeless internets?! then you need to head to The Ones To Watch and check out the story of model couple Harry and Leomie, shot by photographer Kevin Morosky.. ttyl guys I think I'm about to tailspin into a manic episode.

"Harry saw Leomie for the first time while watching the Channel 4 documentary series The Model Agency. He turned to his mother and declared that Leomie was the girl he wanted to marry. After much e-stalking, Harry managed to woo Leomie via Twitter. They have been together ever since. Harry’s mum is still in shock."

Corinne Day : The Face

If you're in London and you have half an hour to spare head down to Gimpel Fils on Davies Street for the Corinne Day exhibit they've got up. I'm usually drawn to flashy, obnoxious photography but the frankness of Corinne's work blows me away, she captured the honest, unassuming purity of youth so beautifully.
it's over in 5 days so make sure you go!!

Progress Not Perfection

I've recently been spending alot of time meditating over purpose and how I'm supposed to go about fulfilling mine now that I'm a gentlewoman. After all the craziness and New Year hype, I think sometimes you can go through a momentum-dip when you lose focus of all the little things because all the big things you're trying to achieve start to look insurmountable.. Dreaming big is scary when you have the freedom/means to turn the dreams into reality, but here's hoping a dose of FaceFront-aration and eye on the prize-cisation will hold us all in good stead!

I came across this story a while back on Fashion Gone Rogue, every time I see it, it speaks to the Working Girl within..

Colour Confusion

a few months ago, a classmate asked me to model for a shoot, which i thought was really cool, so i said yes without paying any attention to the ins and outs of the concept, i heard something about Irving Penn but didn't really connect the dots.. [alarm bells]
note:i love Irving Penn's work but its irrefutable that a lot of early anthropological photography like his played a big part in creating and maintaining certain skewed perceptions of Africa and Africans.

So i later found out that the shoot was based around the concept of relativity(loosely)
people would be presented with the images of myself and the white model, then be made to pick who they thought was more South African than English and vice versa.
(as it happens we're both South African born and semi-bred, but I've been a Londoner a lot longer than my male model counterpart)
Just the idea of Ethnic Absolutism makes my blood boil, the whole thing was kind of like a reversal of the 'me Tarzan you Jane' kind of thing, but this time shock horror the Jane would be a black girl, which would confuse people because the existence of black Europeans is some absurd myth riiight!?
OR the realisation that Africans don't just come in varying shades of brown would really screw up people's minds riiiiight?!
*cue dirty sarcastic eye roll*
the essence of my gripe is that there is no such thing as an ethnic absolute, and i think most people are intelligent enough to have realised this. Therefore it's irrelevant, regressive and redundant to ask people to make assumptions (and expect them to make the obvious ones) on my birthplace or the colour of my passport, just from the sight of me dressed in 'civilised'-people clothing
(as opposed to the natural state they'd expect to see me in, barefoot and wearing nothing but a beaded head-dress and a banana skirt riiiiiiiight?!)
*cue another eye roll*
I'll stop myself there before i start reciting some Paul Gilroy, because at the end of the day i made the decision so it's mine to mull over.. i just felt the need to vent a little
here's a few flicks from the shoot..
there are more pictures but i think i'm only comfortable sharing these..
thoughts?

Snap Crackle Flash Pop

I've recently fallen back in love with my camera in a bid to escape any prospects of brothel dwelling, hence the lack of posts, which is a little sucky of me.
But i have a few shots to show you from a shoot i did last week in my dining room whilst my mum was at work!
it's shot, styled and edited by moi so 'ave a gander..
Sophia's one of my ride or die's and has modelled for loads of people so i'm absolutely delighted she agreed to be a part of it!
ps.most of the stuff is from Asos.com and Topshop
let me know what you guys think...
